Mayne Island is named after Richard Charles Mayne , a lieutenant in the Royal Navy which began surveying the area with the H.M.S. Plumper during the 1850's. The island is only 21 sq. kilometers with a population of 1000.Most of the roads on the island are paved and there is good access to most of the numerous beaches. It is a great place for cycling and kayaking.
